Health Benefit Plan Strategies for 2014

October 29 Chapter Meeting – (5th Tuesday)

1 CE has been approved by the WAOIC for this program

In September, you heard from Howard Bye-Torre of Stoel Rives regarding recent legal developments for health and welfare plans. On October 29, come hear Brent Schlosstein, Founder & Principal of TRUEbenefits, as he translates what's happening in the legal world to what Plan Sponsors should consider in the business world. In particular, Brent will focus on the ins-and-outs self-funding your health benefits, how employee benefit captives are changing the employer landscape and other effective cost mitigation strategies.

Self-Funding:

  • Pros & Cons

  • Carrier vs. a Third Party Administrator

  • Stop-Loss Buying Consortiums

  • Impact of the ACA

Employee Benefit Captives

  • What are they?

  • How they work

  • Are they for you?

Risk Mitigation:

  • That Darn Spouse

  • Dependents of Who?

  • A Prescription for Savings

Presenter Brent Schlosstein is a Founder and Principal of TRUEbenefits, one of largest, privately- held benefit consulting firms in Washington State. For the past 27 years, Brent has advised public and private employers with health and welfare strategic planning, alternative financing mechanisms, creative benefit plan structures and effective benefit plan communication. Currently, Brent is a member of the Wellness & Population Health Management Committee of the Benefit Advisors Network, the nation's premier, independent employee benefit consulting consortium. He is also President of the Lake Washington Human Resources Association (LWHRA) and is a graduate of University of Washington.
