Self Funded Plans: Do they deliver on the promise?
1 CE has been approved by the WAOIC for this program
The prospect of continued increases in health care benefit costs combined with the imminent implementation of health care reform is causing employers to look for, and implement, strategies that offer the opportunity to bend the cost curve for health care expenses. Among many different options, purchasing efficiency is one such strategy and more specifically, self-funding.
While not a new strategy, it does produce a simple question: does it work?
In this presentation, the speakers will discuss the risks, returns and benefits of employers migrating to self-insured status for their health care benefits. The presentation will examine the current trends and triggers associated with self-insurance. Additionally, the presentation will discuss some of the strategies employers should use to optimize the benefits associated with self-insurance – such as performing employer claim reviews.
Attendees will leave the presentation with a much clearer understanding of self-insurance, the potential risks and benefits the strategy provides, including financial and plan management advantages, and tactics for ensuring that self-insurance achieves the desired outcomes.
