What's an Employee (or Retiree) to Choose?
The Interaction of Employer-Provided Health Plans with Marketplace Coverage, COBRA and Medicare
1 CE has been approved by the WAOIC for this program
Health insurance coverage options have become more complex than ever before. New opportunities to purchase health insurance at the Marketplaces require employees and their families to take a more active and informed role in selecting their health coverage, a role for which most Americans are not prepared. Thus, employees, former employees, retirees and their dependents losing or looking for alternatives to employer-sponsored health coverage often first approach the employer who sponsors their group health plan coverage to understand their options under COBRA, the Marketplaces' health insurance coverage and Medicare.
Howard's presentation will include:
-
the key points of the federal guidance that employers need to know to discuss available coverage options with their employees;
-
some of the consequences and practical considerations of each choice;
-
the special and open enrollment rules to follow once a coverage decision has been made.
